Abstract

In today's competitive market, all companies strive to perform from the perspective of sustainability for gaining more advantages against the competition. This study aimed to analyze and prioritize this focus of organizations on sustainable actions. The paper specifically addressed environmental performance in the context of three major Romanian competitors in the energy sector. The comparative analysis was performed through the tool of analytical criteria method. It was use as guidelines alongside this method the disclosures from the GRI 300 2016 standard. Moreover, the study used public information from the companies' Sustainability Reports published in 2023. By performing this study, the results, practices and important differences of these three companies related to sustainability were ranked. The results show that all three analyzed companies made sustained efforts to decarbonize their activities, with performance differences attributable to the distinct strategies employed by each company. Based on this analysis, it is suggested that future research could benefit from expanding the study to include a larger number of companies, particularly those with local capital, and exploring the influence of regulations and market pressures on environmental performance
